Tom Cruise Surfs Ghost Tree

PEBBLE BEACH, CA — Tom Cruise, the well known Hollywood actor and fabled star of movie blockbusters like Cocktail and Days of Thunder, has successfully surfed the newly discovered and very scary big wave, Ghost Tree.

Ghost Tree, aptly named for its mysterious and forboding nature, resides beneath the jagged cliffs of the Monterey Bay Sanctuary, and presents a formidable challenge for even the most die-hard big wave chargers.

Unfortunately, there is ongoing discussion of possibly banning personal watercraft (PWCs) from the Monterey Bay Sanctuary, which would jeopardize the access and surfibility of the break.

Mr. Cruise, a man not unfamiliar with controversy, avoided the PWC dilemma and opted to be towed into the waves via helicopter.

Local tow-in experts familiar with the break, Don Furry and his partner Lance Guzzleman, indicate that Cruise handled the open water swells quite diligently.

“I was just amazed at his rope handling skills. I mean, towing into waves from behind a helicopter isn’t as easy as it looks. Mucho skills,” said Mr. Furry.

Although small and currently in the off-season, Cruise happily towed into 3 foot close-outs.

“I’m not gonna lie, I was a little scared out there. Definitely felt out of my element, but now I can definitely scratch this off my life’s to-do list,” Cruise glibly explained.
